The losses have been tough but educational this season for the North Sunflower Academy Lady Rebels softball team.
On Monday the team lost the first of two road games against Humphreys Academy 10-0 and added another loss at Calhoun Academy, 12-2, on Tuesday.
The team finished district play at 1-5. The team hosts St. Joe next Monday at 4 p.m. and then closes out the regular season with Senior Night on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Seniors Shenryia James, Presley McCool and Jenny Hewitt will be honored.
Head Coach George Roberson has seen consistent improvement with his team but knows they need more seasoning with fundamentals in their strive for excellence.
“The girls have progressed a lot this year. They have steadily gotten better game in and game out,” Coach Roberson said. “We still make simple mistakes where they get in a hurry and think too much. We’re trying to get fundamental softball back into them. They are still learning those fundamentals of the game itself and no matter how much you coach, if it doesn’t get hit to them in a game it doesn’t sink in till they have to use it in the game. Everything is not there yet but it’s coming on. They’ve come a lot this year and I’m proud of them from the team we started with and the team we are now. They don’t know what give up means anymore. They are going to play the whole game no matter what. I’m proud to see that in these girls.”
