The MAIS 1A North Sunflower Academy girls' basketball team was on the winning track before heading to MAIS 4A Washington School last week.
The Generals put the first loss on both the Lady Rebels JV and Varsity teams with a 28-24 JV win and a 52-28 varsity triumph, according to Lady Rebel Head Coach Jenny McCullough.
She also has not seen her team this week since the school had to shut down due to COVID-19.
Games were canceled and will hopefully be rescheduled.
“The only way to get better is playing good teams and Washington is a good team and is a well-coached team,” Coach McCullough said. “Their atmosphere was really good for basketball. The student section was really good. We lost but I thought we got better as we went along. You have to learn to handle adversity and I’ve got to learn how to do a better job coaching these girls and getting them ready. I think we are better now than we were.”
The Lady Rebels schedule had a Monday matchup as well as Tuesday, Friday and Saturday games canceled.
“Discovery Christian is at the end of next week and hopefully we’ll get to play then. We’re not practicing any this week but maybe beginning next week we’ll start to practice,” she said. “We’ll try to reschedule those games.”
Grades seven through twelve are not in this week due to cases in both junior high and high school grades. Coach McCullough has been in contact with her team and is looking forward to getting them back on the hardwood.
“We hope we’ll be back to practicing soon.”
