Last season, the Gentry High Rams baseball team turned in a notable performance by recording the school’s best won-loss record since the 2007 campaign.
Now hoping to improve on that 8-5 record, the upcoming 2019 team will face its challenges as there are but three starters returning from that 2018 team which also made a first round playoff appearance.
With Head Coach Timothy Holmes returning for his second year at the helm of the Gentry High program, the Rams are scheduled to open their season today with a 4 p.m. visit to South Delta High in Rolling Fork.
While the chance of that game being played is highly questionable due to recent rain, the Rams have another scheduled opportunity next Monday when Rosedale High visits for a 4 p.m. match-up.
As for the returning starters, a pair of seniors will be back to help lead the Rams through their schedule.
With Kylon Bush once again expected to hold down the first base position, seeing time on the mound and behind the plate will be Kelvin Moton.
After holding down the right field position last year, junior Malek Galvin returns to once again roam the outfield for the Rams this spring.
