With three consecutive home-court wins under their belt the Gentry High Rams basketball team is turning in a strong start to their young season.
Owning a 3-1 record following Tuesday night’s 73-52 victory over Cleveland Central High School, the Rams will now take an extended break from live action.
For it will be a November 22 trip to Thomas E. Edwards High in Ruleville which is next up on the Rams’ schedule.
In their most recent play Tuesday night against Cleveland Central High, the Rams’ scoring efforts were led by Ladarius Johnson’s 22 point outburst.
Additional offensive firepower was had from Lederrius Love with 11 points and a double double by Jesse Hull. The senior matched his 10 points with 10 rebounds.
Orlando Liddell, Jr. also reached double digit status with his 14 rebounds against the Wolves.
Other action this past week included a hard-fought 75-71 victory last Saturday over the Hornets of Greenville High School.
Exploding to a 20-9 first period lead, this initial 11 point advantage would come back to pay dividends for the Rams as the Hornets mounted a third period rally.
With Gentry High owning a 40-29 halftime lead, the Hornets came out hot in the third period with a 25-13 run over the Rams.
Although owning a narrow 55-54 lead as the game entered the fourth quarter of play, the Rams answered the Hornets’ challenges by outscoring the Greenville High squad 20-17 to secure their four point victory.
Leading the scoring for the Rams in this game with 28 points was Johnson. However, a strong double double performance was also turned in by Hull as he pumped 21 points through the basket while pulling down 14 rebounds.
