The basketball season is very young for the Gentry High Rams but the flow of contests will be coming at a rapid pace.
In their most recent play Tuesday night, the now 1-1 Rams made this season’s debut on their home court a positive one with a dominating 87-45 decision over Amanda Elzy High School of Greenwood.
Other play last Thursday yielded the Rams a season-opening 50-43 road loss to the Clinton High School Arrows.
With those games now in the books, additional upcoming action occurs next Tuesday when the Rams entertain the Wolves of Cleveland Central High School. Tipoff for this non-regional game is set for 7 p.m.
In their most recent win over the Panthers of Amanda Elzy High, the Rams used the double digit scoring of four players to help fuel their lopsided win.
While Ladarius Johnson paced this quartet of scorers with 17 points, Makelvi Hutchins added another 11 points to the scoreboard. Completing the list of high producers with 10 points apiece were Jesse Hull and Demetri Willis.
As for last Thursday’s 50-43 road loss to Clinton High School, a 21-5 second period scoring flurry by the Arrows found the Rams down by a 32-14 halftime score.
Despite outscoring the Clinton squad 29-24 in the second half of play, that first deficit proved to be too large to overcome.
Leading the scoring for the Rams, as well as turning in a double double, was Hull with his 16 points and a dozen rebounds.
Reaching double digit scoring status as well was Johnson, who registered an 11-point performance.
