Last Friday night the Tigers from Leflore County had the better of the Tigers from Sunflower County.
And when all was said and done, the scoreboard testified to Leflore County High earning a 46-20 victory over visiting Ruleville Central High in a non-region bout.
However, now with a five game gauntlet of Region 3-3A contests looming on their football schedule, the 2-3 Ruleville Central squad will use this week’s open date to regroup and prepare for their Sept. 29 Region 3-3A opener versus J.Z. George High School of Carrollton.
In last Friday’s loss to the now 4-1 Leflore County Tigers, the Ruleville squad quickly found themselves down in the first quarter by a 16-0 score.
The Itta Bena squad opened the game with a long touchdown scoring drive and then converted a subsequent Ruleville Central fumbled kickoff into another score.
Although Ruleville Central used a 65 yard pass play from sophomore Joseph Perez to Randarious Maxon to briefly stay within reach, it would be the fourth period before they could find the end zone again.
At that point, it was running back Darious Townsend doing the honors with a pair of touchdowns covering two and 12 yards.
