Hoping to rebound from last week’s season opening loss, a 44-12 decision to visiting Philadelphia High School, the Ruleville Central Tigers travel this Friday to Shelby to take on the Broadstreet High Jaguars.
With kickoff set for 7 p.m., new Head Coach Mario Lane is hoping to see improvement from his very young squad this Friday night.
“We saw some bright spots last week, we’re just very young with literally no returning starters. We’ll get better”, he said.
As for this week’s contest versus 1A member Broadstreet High, the Tigers own a three game win streak over the Jaguars after last season’s 22-0 Ruleville Central victory.
Since 2004, Ruleville Central has also earned a 6-3 winning record over the Shelby-based school.
Broadstreet High ended that 2016 campaign with a 2-7 record and a first round playoff loss to Smithville High School.
In last week’s loss to Philadelphia High, which is currently ranked No. 2 in the state among 2A teams, the Tornadoes lived up to their name as they swept through the Tigers’ defense with 31 first half and unanswered points to effectively put the game away.
Although the Tigers avoided a shutout with a pair of touchdowns in the third frame, the Tornadoes added to their point total with a touchdown of their own in each of the final two periods of play; taking the game to its’ final point total.
