The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics recently released their State Employment and Unemployment Summary for February of 2024.
Unemployment rates were higher in February in 3 states, lower in 3 states, and stable in 44 states and the District of Columbia, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.
Twenty-eight states had jobless rate increases from a year earlier, 3 states had decreases, and 19 states and the District had little change.
Nonfarm payroll employment increased in 4 states and was essentially unchanged in 46 states and the District of Columbia in February 2024.
Over the year, nonfarm payroll employment increased in 25 states and was essentially unchanged in 25 states and the District.
The current unemployment rate for Mississippi (as of February 2024) stands at 3.1 percent.
For comparison, the unemployment rate for the previous reported month (January 2024) was reported as 3.2 percent.
Mississippi stands at a 0.6 percent decrease from the same point the previous year (February, 2023).
Mississippi's unemployment rate at the beginning of the previous year was 3.9 percent (in January, 2023).
The national unemployment rate currently stands at 3.9 percent, which has risen by 0.2% from January 2024 (last month's report).
Mississippi stands at 3.1 percent (a 0.8 percent decrease from the national unemployment rate).
