Sunflower County voters turned out at a rate of 12.59% for Mississippi’s March 10 primary election, with 2,602 of the county’s 20,666 registered voters casting ballots.
In the Democratic primary for the six-year U.S. Senate term, District Attorney Scott Colom led the field in Sunflower County with 1,568 votes, while Albert R. Littell received 181 and Priscilla W. Till garnered 381; a total of 2,130 Democratic Senate votes were cast in the county.
In the Democratic primary for the 2nd Congressional District U.S. House seat, longtime Rep. Bennie G. Thompson dominated the Sunflower County vote with 1,927 ballots to 252 for challenger Evan Littleton Turnage and 24 for Pertis Herman Williams III, for a total of 2,203 Democratic House votes cast.
On the Republican side, incumbent U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith earned 350 Sunflower County votes to 47 for Sarah Adlakha in the GOP primary for the six-year Senate term, with 397 total Republican Senate votes cast in the county.
In the Republican primary for the 2nd Congressional District, Ron Eller received 235 Sunflower County votes and Kevin Wilson received 151, for a total of 386 GOP House votes cast in that race.
