The Sunflower County Board of Supervisors met this past Monday, addressing a range of local matters, including budget approvals, infrastructure improvements and personnel actions.
All five supervisors were present: Glenn Donald (District 1), Riley Rice (District 2), Roger Anthony (District 3), Anthony Clark (District 4), and board President Gloria Dickerson (District 5).
Supervisors approved financial claims (Rice/Clark) and received the chancery clerk’s report, which included a request for the reappointment of Lewis Douglas to the South Delta Regional Housing Authority (Anthony/Rice).
The board discussed local events and initiatives, including a donation of $200 for a reception honoring Dr. Clinton Battle after the unveiling of the Civil Rights Marker on Sept. 11, 2025 (Rice/Anthony). Donald voted nay on the measure.
The board also approved a lost bond and warrant totaling $62.15 (Donald/Rice).
Following the county administrator’s report, key actions included:
Adoption of the 2025 tax roll: The board approved the final 2025 tax roll (Donald/Rice).
Employment actions: The board approved advertising for annual supply bids (Rice/Donald) and the employment of Christopher Dixon as a custodian, effective Oct. 1, 2025, at $15 per hour (Donald/Rice). The board also approved various solid waste, maintenance, and seasonal staff positions, including hiring Thermon Cobbins as a mechanic and Robert Dean and Annal Simpson as part-time employees at $20 per hour (Donald/Rice).

personnel matters
Judge Giles’ report included approval of a new hire, Danielle Duncan, as Juvenile Intervention Court assistant coordinator (Donald/Rice). The board also approved a request for D. Duncan to travel to the 47th Juvenile Justice Symposium in Biloxi, Miss.
Infrastructure and project updates
Major infrastructure projects included approvals for payments related to the City of Drew’s Mississippi Community Project and Mississippi Legislative Funding for projects Nos. B-23-CP-MS-0925 and B-23-CP-MS-0925 (Donald/Clark).
Other ongoing projects discussed included the Blue Lake Road double-shoot project, which has $186,520 in pending funds. Supervisors reviewed the sheriff’s report and a monthly settlement for 3,920 meals served (Donald/Clark).
The board also discussed a legislative update from representatives and a proposal from a private ambulance company. A code enforcement refund request from Michael Reddic was approved (Rice/Clark), and the board moved to consider further budget adjustments.
After a budget update and a working lunch, the meeting recessed at 1 p.m., with plans to reconvene on Monday, Aug. 18, at 8 a.m.
