With a 42-34 sweet revenge win over Coahoma County, the Thomas E. Edwards High School Tigers have advanced to the state finals in Jackson. Head Coach Anthony Davis’s team will take on Quitman County at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday night at the Mississippi Coliseum.
In taking down the Red Panthers, Coach Davis noted it was his team’s defense that made all the difference.
“They had the lead at the half – 15-10, but we went in, made a few adjustments, and came back, and we took care of business,” Coach Davis said. “Anytime you’re playing against Coach Moore, one of the better coaches in the state of Mississippi who has about eight championships, you’ve got to be creative and try to find a way to win. When two good coaches are on the sidelines, it became a defensive battle and a defensive struggle. It just depends on who had a ball.”
Leading the team, Akerrion Ingram had 12 points, followed by Tyondis Willis with 10 and Anthony Townsend with nine.
By the fourth quarter, the Tigers had taken the lead and held on for the win. In looking at Quitman County, Coach Davis noted, “We have to rebound and limit our turnovers and we should be ok.
