One man has been charged with child pornography and authorities are looking for another after searches Wednesday at the home of one suspect and the funeral home where the other worked.
Garrett Robert Szopinski, 32, of Summit, was taken into custody on charges of distributing child pornography. He is being held in the Pike County jail without bond, sheriff’s officials said.
Szopinski was arrested as authorities searched his house on Highway 51 north of Summit. That operation involved a rescue unit from the McComb Fire Department, which reportedly was called to use tools to open a safe.
Authorities also are looking for Jacob Golmon, 33, of Smithdale. He is wanted on a felony warrant for distribution of child pornography as well as a misdemeanor warrant for public display of sexually oriented materials, sheriff’s officials said.
Officials searched Catchings Sharkey Funeral Home in Summit on Wednesday as part of an investigation into Golmon’s alleged activities.
Golman was not at the funeral home at the time of the search, sheriff’s officials said.
Golmon was working as a funeral director at Catchings Sharkey as recently as late August, but his name had been removed from the online staff directory as of Thursday morning.
When asked about Golmon’s employment status Thursday, a spokeperson for the funeral home said, “I haven’t seen him in a week.”
The funeral home official said Szopinski had never worked at the funeral home.
