There is a reason the Cleveland Central Wolves are undefeated.
Unfortunately, the Gentry High Rams received first-hand knowledge of that strength last Friday night.
Suffering a 42-14 Homecoming loss to the now 8-0, 3-0 Wolves, the Rams saw their record drop to a 1-8, 0-3 mark.
With chances of a postseason berth looking dim, the Rams will now attempt to use the final pair of games on their schedule to notch victories.
The first of these opportunities occurs today at 7 p.m. when the Rams travel to Canton High School.
This Region 2-5A match-up will find the Rams taking on a Canton Tigers squad which owns a 6-2, 2-1 record.
Last Friday night, the Tigers earned their second consecutive victory with a dominating 40-6 victory over regional foe Greenville High School.
The last loss suffered by the Canton High squad occurred three weeks ago when they played Cleveland Central High to a 14-12 game.
That margin of victory was far and away the narrowest the undefeated Wolves have experienced thus far this season.
Meanwhile, last season the Canton High Tigers dealt the Rams a 6-0 loss in a fiercely fought game.
That victory over Gentry High added to the Tigers’ final 4-7 record, a season which ended in the first round of the playoffs.
Historically in this short series between these two schools, Canton High owns a 2-1 advantage.
