Sunflower County will cut the ribbon on its transitional homeless shelter soon.
The Sunflower County Board of Supervisors received an update during the board meeting on Monday, and the completion is scheduled for July 15.
A walk-through has already been conducted by architect Emily Poole. The kitchen equipment began arriving last week, including a triple sink, a corner dish washing station, an overhead door, a 52-inch refrigerator and a 52-inch freezer.
This has been a multi-year project, with the county agreeing to build the transitional center. Since its inception, the project has received hundreds of thousands of dollars in Legislative appropriations, helping to expedite the construction.
Sunflower County Ministerial Alliance & Counseling Services (SCMACS) has been contracted to operate the center.

The board approved the 0.75 mills tax levy requested by YMD Joint Water Management District for FY 2024-25. The resolution from Gravel Bayou Drainage District for 2024 tax levy at 2%, which is an increase from 1%, has also been received and approved by the board, as well as the resolution from Sunflower Drainage District for 2024 tax levy at 2.7%.
The Windows server has been replaced and the county has approved Our IT Department as the new server at $9,775.00. The company bid against Business Communications Inc. at $12,602.74.
The board also approved a new fire truck for $514,551 at the request of Sunflower County Emergency Management Director Mitch Ramage.
