The Third Annual Trojan Nation Celebration will be held at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, October 5th, at the B.B. King Museum in Indianola. Tickets are $50. To purchase tickets, scan the QR code in the ad on Page 3 or contact MDCC Athletic Director Jason Conner at (662) 246-6479, (662) 402-1129 or email him at jconner@msdelta.edu.
Delta News Sports Anchor Stephen Robinson will emcee the event that will include a Q&A with legendary Mississippi coaches Richard Williams of Mississippi State University who led the Bulldogs to the 1996 NCAA Final Four, John Brady of Louisiana State University (LSU) who led the Tigers to the 2006 NCAA Final Four and 2019 SEC Coach of the Year Kermit Davis from Ole Miss.
Business casual dress is requested, with heavy hors d'oeuvres, an open bar, a silent auction and entertainment provided. AD Conner is excited to bring these winning coaches and Trojan fans together for a great cause – raising money for the Trojan athletic program.
“I am excited and thankful for those three guys,” AD Conner said. “You've got John Brady, Final Four coach at LSU in 2006. You've got Richard Williams, who was Final Four coach with the Mississippi State Bulldogs in ‘96, and you've got Kermit Davis. He was just inducted into the MTSU (Middle Tennessee State University) Hall of Fame and was also the SEC Coach of the Year in 2019. These guys have won at the highest levels and we're very fortunate to have them come and be a part of our newly named Trojan Nation Celebration, trying to raise awareness and funds for the athletic department here at Mississippi Delta Community College.”
The hors d'oeuvres will be created by Bob Wilbanks of Grand Design in Cleveland. There will be plenty of great entertainment as well.
“We had our first gala two years ago and the food was outstanding. He is gifted and the folks that come will experience a treat. Then we have Dr. Lemondra Hamilton, a very gifted musician, pianist, will be playing music all night. He is the head of the Mississippi Valley State University music program and is a gifted gentleman. He will grace us with his God-given ability. And then also Cheryl Featherstone, our First Lady of Indianola – Mayor Ken Featherstone's wife – will sing, and she has a beautiful voice and will entertain us in that regard.”
There will also be a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle.
“When the people come out, they need to have a little cash in their pocket because somebody's going to walk out with a pretty big win. And then the other half will go to support Trojan athletics,” AD Conner said.
