It was a battle to the end. The Mississippi Delta Community College Trojans’ basketball team had a last second chance for glory but ended up with an 81-79 loss on the road to Hinds Community College when the Eagles stole the ball before the Trojans could attempt a winning shot.
“We got down early about 15 points but at halftime we fought back,” Head Coach Derrick Fears said. “It was another close ballgame but we couldn’t close it out. The guys played as well as expected. With all the injuries and hiccups this season, they managed to pull together and make it as competitive as possible.”
The Trojans end the season with a 5-10 overall record and 2-11 in MACCC action.
Recruiting is a little slow but the Trojans will return plenty of experience from instate and Coach Fears is looking to “add three out-of-staters to mix with our Mississippi kids.”
The Trojans have signed JUCO transfer Jamerison Martin who played at Amory High School and at Itawamba Community College. The 5-foot, 10-inch point guard will fill a void at that position due to injury and academics.
