The Mississippi Delta Community College Trojan baseball team, 4-10-1 at press time, is headed into conference action. On Saturday, the Trojans host the Bulldogs of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (currently 7-11 overall) for a double-header beginning at noon. They’ll host East Mississippi Community College (currently 11-8 overall) on Wednesday, March 15 for a double-header with first pitch at 1:00 p.m.
The Trojans were in the middle of a double-header at press time, dropping the first game to Jones County Community College, 8-5. The Bobcats are 14-4 and on a 10-game win streak. Last week, the Trojans picked up a 5-3 win over Holmes (4-12) and a 17-6 win over Coahoma Community College (3-13.)
Team stats on the young season have the Trojans scoring 103 runs (12 home runs), batting .322 (132 hits in 410 at bats), have 91 RBIs, 58 walks and 88 strikeouts. The Trojans have 33 stolen bases and have been throw out seven times. Opposing teams are hitting .368 against Trojan pitching.
Darren Johnson leads the team at the plate with a .455 batting average with one home run and seven RBIs. Rusty Bolden is hitting .409 with five RBIs. Wes Warnock is hitting .404 with 19 hits and has 19 runs scored and nine RBIs. Channing Lackey and Dre Moore lead the team in RBIs with 13 each.
