The 2024-25 basketball season saw the Mississippi Delta Community College Trojans double their win output and make the Region 23 Playoffs after a four-year absence. Their second-round opponent, Itawamba Community College, put an end to the Trojans’ remarkable season with a convincing 92-58 win in Fulton on Monday night.
Sophomore center Davion Traylor led the Trojans with 19 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks. Nathan White added 11 points while Carter Mullins had 10.
Head Coach Derrick Fears explained, “We just don't have enough firepower. The key to beating us is to turn us over, and we turned the ball over early.”
The Trojans had 21 turnovers in the game and forced only seven.
The Trojans finished with a 14-16 overall record while Itawamba, 25-5 overall, advanced to the semi-finals on Wednesday, March 12, at Mississippi College.
The Trojans will be losing a host of sophomores of which a majority will continue their collegiate playing on a higher level.
“We've been working pretty hard to try to do that. I've got a commit from a guard out of Houston, Texas. I've got a commit from a guard out of Florida. That's pretty good. And now I'm trying to get some size,” Fears said. “Hopefully, Andrew (Mancell) and (Carter) Mullins step up a little bit more for big-time contributors.”
