As we celebrate Valentine Day this year, are we going to wish happiness and kindness to that special someone in our life and to all of our friends? Is this going to be a time when we demonstrate kindness and love so that everyone will know that we are sincere in our wishes?
This is a time of year that most people are positive and receptive to gifts because of the generosity and affection shown to them by others. Hopefully this will be a start to eliminating problems around us and in turn, this will start a chain reaction to helping solve some of the problems in the world. Whatever we do we need to do with a positive attitude.
Friendship is essential every day of our lives and not just on Valentine Day. For some reason we tend to open our hearts more on this day and receive everyone with open arms. Why not do this every day?
I remember reading something recently that makes a lot of sense. If people would take on these thoughts and share them with their friends, family and others, it wouldn’t take long for a good attitude and genuine uplifting spirit to catch on with all the people around us. Charles Caleb Colton once wrote, “Today is not a special day and I have no particular reason for writing to you…
I have no news to tell you or any problems to discuss with you or gossip to tell you. It’s only one of those happy moments when I thought of you and I would like to share these thoughts with you.
Many smiles begin because of another smile! Always have good self-esteem. Take care of your friends, especially those dearest to you. Take care of your body but most of all, find time to relax. True friendship is like sound health; the value of it is seldom known until it is lost!”
Another great saying is, “A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out.” Also, “Friends listen to what you say. Best friends listen to what you don’t say.”
One of my favorite quotes is, “A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words.”
Lee Iacocca once said, “My father always used to say that when you die, if you’ve got five real friends, then you’ve had a great life.” I would hope that when my time comes that I will have more friends than five, however I do have one friend that will never leave me and that is Jesus.
I am reminded of the song, “What a friend we have in Jesus” by Joseph M. Scriven written in 1855. The first verse goes, “What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer! Oh, what peace we often forfeit, Oh, what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer!
We all need to remember that the first wireless communication came when we prayed to God. This Valentine Day remember your special someone and your friends but also put your best foot forward and be a real friend to everyone. Always remember the best friend you can ever have is Jesus Christ and He will never let you down.
