Troy Griffin and Deundria Stovall were recently crowned 2022-2023 Mr. and Miss Gentry.
2022-2023 Miss Gentry, Deundria Stovall, is the daughter of Shaqueena and Marchello Stovall. She is a member of New Jerico Missionary Baptist Church. Deundria is a member of Gentry High School’s basketball, tennis, track, and field teams. As a student-athlete, she keeps herself on track in the classroom and was awarded Superintendent Scholar. For the 2020-2022 school years she received several accolades: All-District Defensive Player for Region 3-4A basketball; Rookie of the Year for tennis; and MVP and Academic Excellence for track and field. During her leisure time, she enjoys spending quality time with family and friends and working on her game. She plans on earning a scholarship to play collegiate ball while majoring in dentistry/oral health. Deundria’s favorite quote is, “Always try to be a shining light bringing life to every situation,” by Maya Moore.
2022-2023 Mr. Gentry, Troy Griffin, is the son of Benita and Chico Potts and Toussaint Griffin. He’s a member of Christian Fellowship Church of God in Christ where he’s an active youth leader and member of the youth choir. Troy is a member of the Honor Society, Chick-fil-A Leader Academy, and Gentry High School’s football, basketball, baseball, and track and field teams. He was also a member of the MS North/South All-Star Basketball Game, where he was the recipient of the Michael Crouther Sportsmanship Award. Never taking his academics for granted, he is an Honor Roll, Principal, and Superintendent Scholar. For the 2020-2022 school years, he received several accolades: 1st Team All-Region 3-4A for basketball and baseball; Offensive Player of the Year for football; Defensive Player of the Year and Academic Excellence (highest average) for basketball; MVP for baseball; and Most Valuable Athlete and All-State Honorable Mention for track and field. During his leisure time, he enjoys spending quality time with family and friends. He plans on earning a scholarship to play collegiate ball while majoring in mechanical engineering.
