Following a weather-induced break, the Indianola Academy Colonels have many opportunities for baseball action scheduled for this next week.
That busy week, which offers three district outings among the four games scheduled, begins today with a trip to Yazoo City for a 6 p.m. non-district contest with Manchester Academy.
Additional action continues for the young 1-3 IA squad next Tuesday when Kirk Academy of Grenada comes to town to officially open the District 1-4A portion of the Colonels’ schedule.
The first pitch of this varsity doubleheader is scheduled to be thrown at 4 p.m.
Next Thursday will then find the Colonels at Kirk Academy to complete the three-game series with the Raiders.
That single varsity game is to begin at 6 p.m.
Prior to those upcoming opportunities, however, the Colonels received much-needed experience this past Tuesday and Thursday nights.
Most recently, the Colonels hosted the defending state champion Tri-County Academy Rebels of Flora.
Although the results of that Thursday night game were unavailable at press time, this past Tuesday took the Colonels to Louisville to take on Winston Academy.
That clash with the Patriots resulted in a 15-5 loss for the Colonels.
The game was evenly played for three complete innings before Winston Academy broke open a 4-4 game in the bottom of the fourth frame with a six-run outburst.
The Patriots would ultimately capitalize on 15 hits, 10 walks, and four IA errors to help plate their run total in this game.
Collecting nine hits in the contest, it was a pair of singles apiece by Easton Lloyd and Levi Williamson, along with two RBI’s apiece, which led the IA hitting attack.
Also drilling an RBI double was designated hitter Slaton Helms while
Ty Killebrew recorded two runs batted in with his single while in the batter’s box.
