Although it may be June, football season is always on the front burner of any sports conversation. MACCC action with the 15-team conference will soon fill Thursday nights and Saturday afternoons. The Mississippi Delta Community College Trojans have a nine-game schedule plus a fall jamboree scrimmage. Head Coach Tavares Johnson Jr. aims to improve upon last season’s 2-7 record.
The season opener will be a home game on Thursday, August 28, against Jones at 7:00 p.m. Following that, the Trojans will hit the road for most of September, playing three games that start with Gulf Coast on Thursday, September 4, followed by a trip to Booneville to face Northeast on Thursday, September 11, and then seeking a win against the Hinds Eagles on Thursday, September 18.
The Trojans end September back on campus, hosting Itawamba on Thursday, September 25, then start October with a bye week, followed by Homecoming on Thursday, October 9, hosting Holmes with a 7:00 p.m. start.
The remainder of October features an away game against Northwest on Thursday, October 16, followed by a home game against East Mississippi on Thursday, October 23, and then a trip to Clarksdale for the regular season finale versus Coahoma Community College on Thursday, October 30.
Last season, Northwest defeated East Central for the MACCC Championship but then lost to Iowa Western Community College in the 2024 NJCAA DI Football Championship - Playoff Semifinal, 42-21.
