At the 88th Mississippi Firefighters and Fire Chiefs Association Conference held in Vicksburg from May 28 to June 1, Sunflower County Deputy Fire Coordinator Jim Whitfield was awarded the Mississippi Chief Fire Officer Designation.
The credential was presented on Monday, June 2 by County Fire Coordinator Mitch Ramage at the Sunflower County Board of Supervisors first regular meeting for the month (pictured left).
The Chief Fire Officer Designation program, a joint effort between the Mississippi Fire Chiefs Association and the Mississippi State Fire Academy, recognizes fire officers who have demonstrated exceptional knowledge, skills, and abilities, and a commitment to the Mississippi Fire Service. This designation is available to personnel serving as deputy chief officers, assistant chief officers, and division chief officers,, and is open to both career and volunteer personnel.
Whitfield began his fire & emergency services career in 1984, is a Mississippi Certified Volunteer Firefighter, Mississippi Certified Rural Fire Officer, Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician, Radiological / Nuclear Hazardous Materials Specialist, and a Fire Services Instructor II.
The Mississippi Firefighters Association and Fire Chiefs Association conference is an annual event that brings together fire service professionals from across the state for training, networking, and the recognition of excellence within the fire service.
