Jimmy Carter recently passed away at 100 years old. His legacy is that he brought Israel and Egypt together for a lasting peace at the Camp David Peace Accords. That pair of agreements was signed in 1978 between Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin and Egyptian President Anwar Sadat. Also, he is known for his substantial work for Habitat for Humanity during his retirement. While I do not agree very much with whatever else he did in the political arena, nevertheless even his most vociferous opponents agree that he was a very decent person. His actions come close to the definition of true religion as spelled out in the biblical statement of James 1 v. 27. I'm sure that he enjoyed the expression on the faces of new owners of Habitat houses when his work was finished. (As I have done here in Jackson.)
By contrast, Joe Biden's legacy will be vastly different. Few can honestly say that he is a decent person. He put his own interests above those of others and the country. In the last few days, he has tried to sell unused sections of the southern border wall for pennies on the dollar of what they cost. This, in spite of the fact that voters overwhelmingly wanted the border to be closed--it was their number two most important reason for voting for Trump. Biden didn't care. He wanted to do anything he could to damage Trump in taking over the presidency. Fortunately, Ken Paxton, the Texas Attorney General, has successfully petitioned to halt further sales.
Further, Biden has pardoned his son Hunter although he promised several times that he would not do so. He said many times that he knew nothing of his son's business dealings. But when he was VP, he bragged about holding Ukraine money hostage until the prosecutor who was investigating Hunter's involvement with the energy company Burisma was fired. And now, photos have just been released that show Biden and Hunter together meeting with Chinese businessmen.
Christopher Wray, the FBI Director, although appointed by Trump, has turned out to be a Biden sympathizer. (Witness his invasion of Mar-a-Lago.) He has now decided to retire on the day before Trump takes office. Trump has nominated Kash Patel to replace him. From his previous work with the FBI, Patel knows where a lot of malfeasance exists. His work would further damage Biden's legacy. His nomination will therefore face vigorous resistance.
As I write it is just days til inauguration day. The Biden--Harris team seems to be intent on making it as difficult as possible for Trump to be successful right out of the gate. They are allowing a last-minute surge of illegal immigrants to enter the country. They are spending as much money as they think they can get by with. And most egregiously they are auctioning off huge quantities of unused sections of the border wall that has been stacked up in Arizona since Biden took office. They are accepting bids as low as $5 per section. Biden is not thinking about his legacy. That's already shattered beyond repair. In any event he's been doing important work in a minor country in Africa. Kamala is too busy giggling with her friends in Hollywood. Neither one of them in fact may be calling the shots at this time. It might be Barack Obama along with Alejandro Mayorkas. Remember Mayorkas--he's the one who told us frequently during the last three and a half years that the southern border was closed, when in reality upwards of 10 million illegals entered the country. He certainly would be in favor of impeding Trump's plans for finishing the border wall.
Have these decision makers, whoever they are, come to grips with the fact that voters overwhelmingly voted to stop law-breaking illegals from entering the country? That factor was second only to the economy as the most important reason in voters' minds as they went to the polls last November 5. Several Democrats undoubtedly also held this view. So, the key question is this: why do those who are pulling the strings want to go against the vast majority of Americans by auctioning the wall components?
Some possibilities come to mind.
1) They think that voters will have forgotten about this action when the next election comes around.
2) It is more important for them to damage Trump now, than to worry about something in the future.
3) They need to keep the border porous for as long as possible.
