The Sunflower County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an early Sunday morning break-in at the county road department’s northern office in Blaine.
One of the county vehicles on-site was stolen but later was returned damaged.
The incident occurred this past Sunday at approximately 5:30 a.m.
According to reports, the intruder removed a window unit air conditioner to gain entry into the building.
The only items confirmed missing were a Chevrolet Trailblazer, a county vehicle belonging to the department's secretary, and its set of keys.
Surveillance footage revealed that the burglar used a bolt cutter to cut the lock on the gate where the vehicle was parked. After approximately an hour and a half, the vehicle was returned, but damage was noted on the front passenger side.
The car keys were placed on the driver's seat, as noted by the road department during the Sunflower County board of supervisors meeting on Monday.
The sheriff’s department encourages anyone with information to contact its investigators.
