The City of Indianola board of aldermen voted this week to adjudicate multiple houses for demolition.
City Inspector Jamal Mayfield presented the addresses and his recommendations to the board during this week’s regular board meeting.
The board voted to demolish the duplex home at 404 East Gresham Street.
Mayfield described it as a ‘safety hazard.”
“I recommend demolition,” he said.
A reportedly abandoned and burned house at 408 Curtis Street was adjudicated, along with homes at 618 Main Street, 618 Oak Street and 609 Coates Street.
The board granted a 60-day stay of adjudication to Kenneth Spurlock, the owner at 406 Curtis Street. He said he was going to rehabilitate the home within that time frame.
The board gave Brenda White, the owner of the home at 311 Marie Avenue, two weeks to move at least two inoperable vehicles from her property.
White appeared before the board and explained that while there are a high number of cars on her property sometimes, it is due to her grandsons visiting her from out of state. She said that only two of the vehicles were inoperable.
Ward 4 Alderman Marvin Elder told Inspector Mayfield to look at other properties around town that have been accumulating abandoned vehicles.
Mayfield assured Elder and the board that he had a list, and that it was about to be enforced heavily.
