Sunflower County’s Search and Rescue unit gathered with their families to kick off the holiday season during their annual Christmas Party on Saturday, December 2nd.
SAR President Stan Bennett presented the Distinguished Service award to this year’s recipient, George Watson. Bennett says Watson has put in a lot of work and training hours as a K-9 worker and other duties he covers for the unit.
In addition to the service award, the SAR squad heard from guest speaker Katherine Jacobs. Jacobs is an attorney who runs two certified K-9s and is a member of Legacy K-9s. Jacobs shared a wealth of knowledge about SAR, including liability regarding SAR, GPS software to use, and the importance of a flanker during a search.
Bennett reflected on the searches they completed this past year. Bennett said the SAR squad has worked in Leflore County, Humphreys County, Bolivar County, Cohomoan County, Holmes County, Hines County, and Sunflower County. “We’ve been around pretty good this year,” Bennett said.
Bennett looks forward to another year with the Search and Rescue unit.
