During this week’s board of supervisors meeting, Tax Assessor Cynthia Chandler delivered her monthly report and addressed the board regarding the finalization of the 2025 tax rolls. Chandler confirmed that all required public notices had been published, inviting property owners with concerns or objections to come forward. Board Attorney Johnny McWilliams also stated this publicly. No objections were raised during the meeting.
“With no objections filed, I recommend the board proceed to finalize the tax roll,” McWilliams said. The supervisors unanimously approved the rolls, including assessments for real property, motor vehicles, mobile homes, and personal property.
Chandler also reported that the annual application for certification to expend the “one mill” tax for reappraisal purposes was complete and ready for approval. The supervisors voted to authorize the application, with discussion clarifying that funds collected from the one-mill levy could only be spent once all statutory requirements for assessing and collecting taxes have been met.
The board addressed a separate agenda item regarding software support. Supervisors approved a support agreement with Data System Management to maintain county tax and property records.
Additional discussion focused on an interlocal agreement between Sunflower County and the Town of Inverness to streamline tax collection. Attorney McWilliams emphasized the importance of proper documentation and timely filing to ensure ongoing tax collection and salary disbursements for officials. The board approved the agreement, which aims to facilitate the simultaneous collection of county and municipal taxes, thereby supporting local revenues and public services.
District 1 Supervisor Glenn Donald thanked tax office staff and county officials for their collaborative efforts. “I just want to thank you all for taking the time to ensure everything is done correctly—this benefits both the county and the taxpayers,” he said.
The meeting concluded with all agenda items approved and appreciation expressed for the teamwork involved in managing Sunflower County’s tax administration.
