The Indianola Police Department is investigating a Sunday evening shooting that ended in the parking lot of South Sunflower County Hospital and resulted in another Indianola juvenile’s death.
According to Sunflower County Coroner Heather Burton, one victim, a 16-year-old, was confirmed dead at the scene. At least two other victims were seriously injured, and at least one was airlifted from SSCH.
The Enterprise-Tocsin is not releasing the name of the deceased at this time.

Investigators with the Indianola Police Department elected not to comment to our reporter, who was at the scene at SSCH on Sunday night, but a video statement from Indianola Mayor Ken Featherstone on social media suggested the incident started on Gillespie Street and ended at the hospital.
“It is with great sadness that I report there’s been another shooting on the streets of Indianola, over on Gillespie Street, earlier today,” Featherstone said. “There were three that were shot, one fatally injured.”
The E-T captured photos of investigators marking evidence and apparently collecting shell casings in front of the Double Quick at U.S. 82 and Highway 448 (Sunflower Avenue).
A vehicle that was apparently involved in the shooting arrived at the emergency entrance of the hospital at some point after the shooting. The hospital is located less than a mile from where officers were collecting shell casings.
There were visible bullet holes in the side of the car.

The Sunflower County Sheriff’s Department, the Moorhead police department and the Sunflower Police Department and others responded to the shooting.
Featherstone noted that there was inter-agency cooperation at the scene.
He also implored anyone who has information about the shooting to come forward.
“I’m asking for all citizens to be in prayer for the family who has lost a loved one and all those that have been injured in this incident,” Featherstone said. “Again, enough is enough Indianola. We need to put the guns down.”
Featherstone, who is in his first month in office as mayor, launched two weeks ago the 100 Days of Non-Violence campaign to raise awareness of gun violence in the city.
