Sunflower Police Chief Louis Baymon said on Tuesday, that four people are suspected to be involved in a home burglary that took place on Penny Circle, last Thursday night.
Warrants have been issued for three of the four persons, and one of the trio is in custody while the others, including a yet to be identified fourth person, remain at large.
Arrested is Kevion McClain 19, 113 Railroad Ave., Sunflower, and he is charged with burglary – breaking and entering. Police are still looking for 21-year-old Derrick McClain Jr. and a 17-year-old boy, and warrants have been issued for them plus the unidentified fourth person is also being sought.
The tetrad of alleged intruders reportedly broke into the home of a Sunflower man who was shot the night before during an altercation in Moorhead and was recuperating in a Jackson hospital at the time of the break in.
Xavier Appleberry was shot just after midnight on Wednesday and was rushed to University Medical Center in Jackson for treatment.
Baymon said the suspected thieves knew Appleberry was away getting medical treatment and that his family was out of town checking on him and seized that opportunity to burglarize their home.
He said the area at the back of the house was underlit, which made it easier to enter from the rear of the house. They allegedly stole at least four weapons, “Mostly shotguns,” Baymon said, but also a handgun and lots of jewelry.
Baymon said they were able to identify the alleged culprits from video footage obtained from a neighbor’s security cameras.
He says that family members could be hiding them out.
