They are the District 1-2A champions!
Having now set themselves up for potential success in the North State 2A playoffs by way of their No. 1 district seeding, the Lady Colonels softball team owns a 10-15, 5-1 record.
In their most recent action, despite dropping Monday’s game at Delta Academy in Marks, the Lady Colonels closed out their district play by rebounding Tuesday with a 16-4 victory over visiting North Sunflower Academy of Drew.
With their district crown in hand, upcoming action will find the Lady Colonels continuing to march through the balance of the four non-district games remaining on their regular season schedule.
As for postseason play, the North 2A Tournament is scheduled to begin September 27 and will be hosted by Canton Academy.
In their upcoming week’s action, Monday will find Tunica Academy arriving at Chism Park for a 6:30 p.m. game with the Lady Colonels.
The softball action will remain consistent for IA as Tuesday will then take the Lady Colonels to Benton Academy for another 6:30 p.m. contest.
IA’s recent dozen-run victory over visiting North Sunflower Academy, saw the Lady Colonels hammer 11 hits in the game.
This offensive attack was led by Aubri Rybolt and Julia Davis as the pair drilled a double and a single apiece.
While Maisy Smith added a triple to the fray, Kelly Arrington and Carlyle Reed each slapped a pair of singles.
Rybolt picked up the win in the pitcher’s circle as she scattered five NSA hits while striking out four and walking four batters.
Meanwhile, this past Monday in Marks, the Lady Colonels fell by a 14-6 score to Delta Academy.
Although IA began the game with first-inning back-to-back home runs and three runs scored, the Lady Raiders countered with a five-run first inning of their own.
The Lady Colonels’ 10-hit attack in this game featured those back-to-back homers in the first frame— left-field fence-clearing blows which were generated by the bats of Arrington and Presley Bradshaw.
Unfortunately, the bats of Delta Academy were extremely hot in this game.
The Lady Raiders used 17 hits to help drive 14 runs across the plate.
