Jacorriah Bracey has a new reason to celebrate.
Two days after leading the Thomas E. Edwards Lady Tigers to a 3A title game berth, the senior standout and Ole Miss signee was named the 2019-20 Gatorade Mississippi Girls Basketbal Player of the Year.
She is the first Lady Tiger to win this honor.
Gatorade recognizes the No. 48 player in the nation (ESPN) not only for her athletic ability but also for her “academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field.”
Bracey is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year, a release from Gatorade said this morning. That will be announced later this month.
Standing 5-foot-11, Bracey averaged 35 points a game in 2019-20, the exact number she had during the Lady Tigers’ semifinals win over Tylertown on Wednesday morning.
She also averaged 11 rebounds and 7 assists.
Bracey started the season with high expectations, making the Clarion Ledger Dandy Dozen team.
Her presence played a key role in Thomas E. Edwards being ranked No. 1 in 3A going into the season.
Throughout a grueling senior campaign, Bracey has maintained an A average in the classroom.
She will lead the Lady Tigers in the state title game tomorrow against Senatobia at Ole Miss at 1 p.m.
