Indianola incumbent Mayor Steve Rosenthal has defeated challenger Vivian Jenkins in the Democratic runoff.
All of the votes are not tallied, and the count is unofficial, but Rosenthal carried 56 percent of the vote during Tuesday's election.
Rosenthal had 1,479 votes to Jenkins' 1,147, with 106 affidavit votes at the most that will be counted tomorrow, leaving it seemingly mathematically impossible for Jenkins to overcome.
With these prospective results, Rosenthal will face off against Independent Jimmy Smith on Dec. 12.
Rosenthal said after the votes were counted on Tuesday night that his number one project for the next four years is road projects throughout Indianola.
Jenkins came out of the gate with a lead over Rosenthal, carrying Wards 3, 4 and 5 in the city.
Rosenthal was able to rally and make up the difference in Wards 1 and 2.
