Sunflower County has two basketball teams heading to the MHSAA semifinals.
The Ruleville Central Tigers will play Holly Springs at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Coach Marlon Dorsey’s squad secured this spot by defeating Jefferson Davis High School 42-39 on Saturday.
The Tigers were in control during Saturday’s game throughout the first half. The team scored 35 points to Jefferson Davis’ 18 during the first two periods.
The Jaguars came roaring back in the third period, scoring 19 points, but Ruleville’s defense came up big in the final eight minutes of the game, holding Jefferson Davis to two points to close out the three-point victory.
Should Ruleville win on Wednesday, the Tigers would play the winner of the St. Andrews Episcopal-Tylertown contest for the state title.
Prior to Wednesday’s game, Gentry’s Rams will take on Raymond for a chance to head to the state championship game. That game will be played at 8:30 p.m.
