The B.B. King Homecoming Blues Festival is returning to Fletcher Park in 2018, and tickets are still available for the June 2 lineup.
Tito Jackson and former members of the B.B. King Blues Band will headline this year’s festivities with two Saturday performances.
“I always idolized B.B. King, and I’ve always been a blues player, ever since I picked up the guitar,” Jackson said.
He and the band will take the stage at 8 p.m. on June 2, and they will close out the night with a show at the historic Club Ebony, following the tradition of King.
This performance is just one stop on a larger tour featuring Jackson and B.B.’s former band members. Jackson also released his first album in 2017, Tito Time.
This is the 38th year of the festival. Most years, the festival was held a Fletcher Park, but it was moved to the museum grounds in 2012. Now it is returning to its original location, where B.B. King spent many nights playing before thousands of people.
"Although B.B. performed in sold-out venues all over the world, nothing made him happier than to be back in his hometown to play this concert for the crowd he considered as his extended family,” said B.B. King Museum Executive Director Malika Polk-Lee.
Advance tickets are $10, with gate tickets at $15.
Activities begin at noon with food and art vendors in the park, and musical entertainment will begin at 2 p.m.
