This past weekend was one of major upsets.
LSU took down No. 2 Georgia, and Auburn was defeated by Tennessee.
Not sure if Gus is gonna make it in Auburn at this point, following back-to-back losses to Mississippi State and the Tigers.
The upsets just kept on coming through Sunday and Monday.
I have belonged to an ESPN Fantasy League that is an NFL league for a number of years. Officially, it’s the Birmingham Business Journal’s team, but a number of alumni and friends of the Journal participate.
I began the year 5-0, hands down my best start ever, and it is probably my best roster during my tenure.
Well, my good friend Ryan Phillips, a BBJ alum and current Executive Editor at the Starkville Daily News, came into this week without a win, and he had my powerhouse as an opponent.
I thought for sure this would be a cakewalk, but it was not that kind of weekend.
Something was in the air in both the college and NFL ranks.
Thank goodness my Saints were idle and perhaps missed this bug.
Anyway, I got poor performances out of a number of players.
I had pulled out some close ones before last week, but this time, I was on the losing end.
I lost it to Phillips’ Bearskin Rungs 112.2-110.2.
I don’t totally understand Fantasy Football, and to tell you the truth, I don’t totally understand football itself, but I know when something is out of the ordinary.
That many upsets in one week?
I don’t want to lose again, but maybe we can keep this going for one more game and watch Mississippi State defeat the No. 5 LSU Tigers at home.
I’d gladly take a fall to see that.
