After more than 31 years in business, Larry Vance is calling it quits. Although he is retiring, the conspicuous, convenience store will remain open there on the corner of U.S. Highway 82 and Moody Street.
The popular eatery and gas station, formerly known as Vance’s Citgo, was opened in June of 1989 and for the first time since then is now under new ownership with a new name, Quick 7.
Vance said he is grateful to and for all of his customers and friends for their support all down through the years, but he is just ready to retire. So, what does he plan to do now that the business is in new hands? “I don’t really know, just retire,” he said.
New owner Money Singh and his son Charan Singh said they are anxious to start meeting their new customers and friends. The senior Singh said he has over 20 years of experience in the convenience store business. Currently he owns and operates several stores in Belzoni and Drew including a package liquor store under the Quick 7 umbrella.
Singh describes himself as “hardworking” and said he plans to give friendly, honest service to all. “God loves everybody,” he said.
The younger Singh added that they have plans to do some renovations to the interior of the store and improve the variety of items there to increase sales and continue to provide the same great service the customers have been used to. “We basically plan to upgrade the entire store and we encourage the customers to come,” Singh said.
He said they are keeping the current staff and plan to hire additional people.
Singh and his son are from Belzoni.
