Hoping to reverse a four-game losing streak, the Gentry High Rams baseball team begins a three-game string of homefield games this Friday.
Owning a 4-7, 1-3 record, Friday’s opponent will be Region 3-4A foe Tunica Rosa Fort High School. The Lions and the Rams will take the field at 4 p.m. to conclude their home and away series.
The Lions defeated the Rams by an 11-1 score in Tuesday evening’s initial match-up played in Tunica.
Additional baseball action will occur this Saturday for the Rams when Ruleville Central High visits for a noon non-regional game.
A return to regional competition will be had next Tuesday when Yazoo City High School comes to town. This matchup with the Indians has a first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.
In other action this past week, the Rams dropped a regional game to Clarksdale High School last Friday as the Wildcats claimed a 12-8 decision.
This was followed last Saturday by a 12-2 non-regional loss to visiting Hollandale Simmons High School.
In their loss to Clarksdale High, the Rams accumulated seven hits in the contest.
Leading this part of the Gentry High offense was Kelvin Moton with a double and a single while Maleek Galvin and Earl Liddelll added two singles apiece.
The Rams actually owned an 8-1 lead going into the bottom of the sixth frame until the Wildcats erupted for 11 runs to take the final lead.
As for Saturday’s loss to Hollandale Simmons High, the Rams would earn five hits against the Blue Devils’ pitching staff and Troy Griffin’s double led this hitting effort.
Meanwhile, the Blue Devils would help use the 13 walks issued to them to help accumulate their double digit point total.
