With postseason play now at hand, the Indianola Academy basketball teams will begin by hosting the District 1AAA Tournament.
Scheduled to open play tonight, this tournament has the 10-14 Lady Colonels entering the tournament as the district No. 3 seed and the IA squad will open its postseason play at 6:15 p.m. Friday against North Delta School of Batesville.
Meanwhile, the 11-9 Colonels will also play Friday night against the winner of Thursday night’s Lee Academy (Clarksdale) versus North Delta School match-up.
The Colonels will tip-off immediately following the IA girls’ game.
Saturday will bring the consolation games and the championship clash with the girls’ title game beginning at 6:15 p.m. and the boys’ immediately thereafter.
Additionally, both IA teams have already earned a berth into the North AAA State Tournament. That tournament will be hosted at Heritage Academy of Columbus beginning Wednesday, February 13.
The brackets to that tournament are pending this week’s game results.
In their final regular season game of the season played last Friday, the Colonels earned a 59-33 road decision over Manchester Academy in Yazoo City.
Randy Kimble turned in a season-high 33 point performance, along with 11 rebounds to pace the IA attack.
Also reaching double digit status was DeDe Willis, who pumped a dozen points through the basket.
In girls’ play that same night, the Lady Colonels fell by a 39-30 margin to the Mavericks despite a double double which included 11 points and 11 rebounds by Mattie Beth Wiliamson.
Posting an additional 10 points on the scoreboard for IA in this game was Jill Roberts.
