Having already recorded a 9-7 extra inning road victory over the Wildcats in Tuesday evening’s contest, today’s 4 p.m. contest also begins a three game home-stand for Gentry Head Coach Timothy Holmes’ squad.
For this Saturday will find the Blue Devils of Hollandale Simmons High coming to town for an 11 a.m. non-regional matchup while next Tuesday brings Tunica Rosa Fort High to the Gentry field for a 4 p.m. regional contest.
In their recent victory over Clarksdale High, the Rams found a way to win despite being limited to only four hits by the Wildcats’ pitching staff.
Surviving a see-saw game in which the game was knotted at four runs apiece after five innings of play, the Rams overcame a 6-4 deficit in the top of the seventh inning to take a 7-6 lead.
Although the Wildcats scored in their half of the seventh frame to send the game into extra innings, the Rams plated two in their half of the eighth to take a permanent lead.
For Christian Randle came to the mound in relief and rendered the Clarksdale hitters scoreless to pick up the win.
Starting pitcher Kameron Spencer toiled for the initial seven innings of the game and allowed but three hits while striking out 10 hitters and walking eight more.
At the plate, the Rams’ hitting attack was led by Junarious Faint’s pair of singles.
Other action this past week saw the Rams claim a Monday evening 15-7 road win over Shelby Broadstreet High while last Thursday’s play earned the Gentry squad an 18-1 victory over the Ruleville Central High Tigers.
In Monday night’s victory over the Jaguars of Broadstreet High, the Rams used nine hits to help plate their 15 runs scored.
Five of those runs occurred in the first inning and helped give the Rams a lead they never relinquished.
Meanwhile, on the mound the Moton brothers combined to limit the hitters from Shelby to only six hits in this seven inning contest.
While Kelvin Moton picked up the win with his four innings of work, which yielded four hits while striking out nine batters, Kelvun Moton earned the save as his three innings allowed but two hits and fanning four Jaguars.
In the batter’s box, Spencer added a triple to his pair of home runs drilled while Jatavious Whitley also hammered a triple to along with his two singles.
Also picking up multiple hits against the Broadstreet pitching staff was Xavier Carpenter as the senior slapped a pair of singles to help the Gentry offensive efforts.
Against Ruleville Central High, it would require the Rams only three innings to put this 18-1 game to rest. The scoring deluge began in the first frame when the Gentry squad plated eight runs in the first frame and then bettered that with 10 runs in the second inning.
Accumulating a dozen hits in the game, the Rams were led by Whitley’s triple and single while Faint added a double and a single during his appearances at the plate.
Also ripping a triple for the Rams in this contest was sophomore Malek Galvin.
On the mound Randle’s two hitter included striking out eight Ruleville Central batters.
