After an incredible 2024-25 season that put the Mississippi Delta Community College Lady Trojans in the Region 23 Final Four, the 2025-26 season saw a fall from grace. Finishing the season with only eight wins and 15 losses and a paltry 2-12 MACCC record, along with a four-game losing streak, the Lady Trojans are looking to continue rebuilding. The team had 11 freshmen and two sophomores on this season’s team. One big piece of the puzzle will be the future of Head Coach Tangela Banks who stepped into the shoes of interim athletic director. No timetable has been mentioned regarding if the “interim” will be taken off and if she will stay on the sidelines and rebuild her Lady Trojans.
Freshman E’Kemi Johnson was the overall stat leader for the Lady Trojans as she led the team in every single category: 16.7 points per game; 4.8 rebounds per game; field goal percentage at 56.1; 3-point percentage at 49.6; free throw percentage at 72.9; 62 steals; 42 assists; and 15 blocks.
Looking at the MACCC standings, Pearl River, Itawamba, Meridian, Mississippi Gulf Coast, Northwest, Jones, Copiah-Lincoln and East Central all made the postseason – Region 23 Playoffs that began on Thursday, March 5, when East Central took on Coahoma, Northeast and Meridian matched up, Holmes took on Jones, and Copiah-Lincoln took on Louisiana State University-Eunice.
