Is the Indianola Academy Colonels baseball team going to peak at the perfect time of the season?
With a nine-game run of District 1-4A contests on the horizon, next Tuesday’s initial district baseball action will begin to provide the answer.
For on that day the Colonels will travel to Batesville to take on the North Delta School Green Wave in a 6 p.m. matchup.
The Colonels are hoping their peaking truly began with this past Tuesday evening’s 10-4 road victory over Greenville O’Bannon High School. The victory improved the Colonels’ record to a 7-7, 0-2 mark.
The final non-district tune-up then occurred Thursday when Humphreys Academy of Belzoni visited the IA field. Results of that game were unavailable at press time.
Following next Tuesday’s clash with North Delta School, next Thursday will bring the North Delta School squad to the IA field.
A 4 p.m. first pitch will begin a double-header against the Green Wave to complete this important three-game series.
In other play this past week, the Colonels earned their 10-4 victory over O’Bannon High on the strength of a 13-hit attack.
Spotting the Green Wave a 1-0 lead after one inning of play, the Colonels would move on to plate runs in all but the last of the remaining frames.
Leading the hitting for IA with three singles was Walker Perkins while Gage Berry and Weston Farmer slapped a double and a single apiece.
Also contributing a pair of singles apiece were Graham Howard and Patrick Davis while Ty Killebrew also drilled a double.
On the mound, Tyler Jackson picked up the win following his four innings of work which allowed three hits while fanning five and walking one.
Farmer then came on in relief and his three innings yielded five hits while striking out six batters and walking one.
Additional play included closing out the Spring Break Tournament with a 7-4 loss to Riverside High in Avon.
The Colonels’ seven-hit attack featured their first home run of the season.
It would be Farmer who crushed a two-run shot over the centerfield wall to help the IA offense.
Farmer also added a single to his day’s performance while Davis and Jackson contributed a double apiece to IA’s efforts at the plate.
