Someone will record their first football win of the season tonight.
With Sylva-Bay Academy arriving for its first-ever visit to Legion Field, the 0-8, 0-2 Indianola Academy Colonels will take on the 0-7, 0-2 Saints in a District 2-3A match-up.
With Senior Night also being celebrated in this meeting between these two teams, kickoff for this season’s final home game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Making the trip from Bay Springs (near Laurel), the Saints will bring a team which dropped a 37-7 decision to Wayne Academy of Waynesboro last Friday night.
Meanwhile, that same night the Colonels fell to a now 7-1 Washington School squad from Greenville by a 43-12 margin.
“Sylva-Bay has some good skilled players we have to contain,” said IA Head Coach Tommy Nester. “If our linemen can control the line of scrimmage good things could happen for us.”
In last week’s loss to Washington School, the game opened in a positive manner when the Colonels scored on their first offensive play of the game.
A 71-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Lawson Zepponi to EJ Hall answered a game-opening touchdown drive by the Generals.
Unfortunately, that 7-6 deficit was as close as the Colonels would get the balance of the game as four turnovers hampered their offensive efforts.
By halftime, the Generals owned a 29-6 lead which mushroomed to a 43-6 margin as the game entered the final quarter of play.
The Colonels posted their final points on the scoreboard in that fourth period when Zepponi plunged in from one yard out.
Offensively, Haygon Sheedy paced the IA ground game as his seven carries garnered 48 yards.
Walker Perkins was close behind with 45 yards of rushing earned during his nine carries.
Zepponi completed four of his dozen pass attempts for 97 yards — 71 of which were earned on the long-scoring toss to Hall.
Defensively, the Colonels were led by Abel Williamson’s seven solo, five assist night of play.
While Perkins added four solos and two assists, Bryce Hobbs completed his night of play with three solo tackles and four assists.
