The Lady Trojans softball team put up a two-game win streak to end the 2024 season. With a 4-3 and 10-2 beatdown of Meridian Community College, the MDCC Lady Trojans finished with an 8-36 overall record and 6-22 in the MACCC. First year Head Coach Tre Hobbs was happy to get the wins but saw what his team could have accomplished earlier in the season.
“Those last two games, they played the best I’ve seen them play all year,” Coach Hobbs said. “That’s the potential they had but it just didn’t come out for some reason. I’m just glad we ended on a great note.”
The win was “a collective – everyone in the starting lineup contributed in those two wins and it was amazing.”
Winning six games was a big improvement from last season and Coach Hobbs noted “this year we shocked a lot of people when we played. They didn’t expect us to play as well as we did against them.”
In building the 2025 Lady Trojan team, Coach Hobbs has signed quite a few new players.
“We haven’t been a top program and it’s been hard to get players to sign here,” he said. “It’s tough playing in this conference. I have signed 13 girls and I’ll have one more at the end of May when she’s done with playoffs.”
Players from this year’s team are looking to play at the next level as well.
“I’m trying to get Carly Vannucci signed somewhere and I’m hoping to find a place for (MarQueshia) Starks,” he said.
The Lady Trojans will be hosting a Showcase on Saturday, May 18 at the Carl and Brenda Grubb Softball Complex. The event fee is $75 per player and is for high school sophomores through seniors to show their talents.
“We’ll go through drills and get some metrics on them,” Coach Hobbs said.
