The Lady Trojans softball team is still looking for that first win of the season with MACCC conference play on the horizon. Head Coach Tre Hobbs has seen vast improvement in his team from day one of his tenure. Several players have shown progress this season.
“I have a few but we’ve got to get the defensive side of things going,” Coach Hobbs said. “Four freshmen and two sophomores have done really well. (Freshman) Adriyana Ruffin, our starting shortstop is hitting .380 right now. (Freshman) Kayle Rouse didn’t start the year at third base but has been starting the last few games and she’s batting .344. she’s actually my third baseman/DH/pitcher. (Sophomore) Carlie Vannucci is batting .317 and has a 3.0 ERA and we haven’t won a game for her. (Freshman) Takiya Shaw is a speedy outfielder and she’s batting .306. (Freshman pitcher/outfielder) Madalyn Goodman has really improved. She’s batting .286. She started off slow but has gotten hot here lately. Tyler Vannucci is hitting them right at people but she’s playing catcher really well. (Sophomore) MarQueshia Starks is leading us in home runs with two and RBIs with eight.
The MACCC won’t make things any easier for the Lady Trojans with five of the Top 11 nationally-ranked teams are MACCC opponents. Pearl River checks in at #2 followed by Copiah-Lincoln at #4, Northwest holding down #6, Jones College at #8 and Northeast at #11.
“We have the toughest conference in the nation,” he said. “I tell our players that they put on their pants the same way we put on ours. Just go out there and play ball.”
