The Indianola Academy Colonels baseball team remained in search of their first District 1-4A victory Thursday night.
Playing on their home field, the Colonels took a 7-9,0-3 record into their doubleheader against North Delta School of Batesville.
While results of that night’s play were unavailable at press time, the Colonels began their three-game series with the Green Wave this past Tuesday in Batesville.
That trip to Panola County garnered the Colonels an 18-8 loss.
However, there will be additional opportunities to pick up district victories arriving next week.
The Colonels’ current long string of district contests continues with next Tuesday’s visit to Marshall Academy in Holly Springs.
That single game matchup with a talented team of Patriots is set to begin at 6 p.m.
Next Thursday will then find Marshall Academy visiting the IA field to complete this current three-game series.
First pitch of this doubleheader is slated to be thrown at 4 p.m.
In the Colonels’ Tuesday night loss to North Delta, the outcome of the game was enhanced by walks and an error-prone night.
Although only down by a 4-2 score after two innings of play, an eight-run uprising by North Delta in the third inning put the game out of reach.
At the plate, the Colonels completed the game being outhit 10-5 by the Green Wave.
Five different Colonels slapped a single apiece to account for IA’s offensive efforts in this game.
Meanwhile, in other action played a week ago today, the Colonels dropped a 13-4 non-district decision to visiting Humphreys Academy from Belzoni.
The Colonels began the game in fine fashion as they owned a 4-2 lead after three innings of play.
However, the Rebels’ bats became hot and were able to plate seven runs in the top of the fourth frame to take a permanent lead.
The Colonels could not match the Rebels’ 14-hit attack and completed the game with six hits.
Earning four of those hits was Ty Killebrew as the freshman added a double to his three singles against HA pitching.
Also aiding the IA offense by drilling a three-RBI double was Liam Ledbetter.
