It will be the Rebels versus the Rebels in a District 2-2A football match-up tonight.
And within this game, there exists a strong need for the North Sunflower Academy Rebels to close out their season’s district play with a victory.
That need could be indeed satisfied tonight on NSA’s home field when Humphreys Academy of Belzoni visits.
Bringing a 2-5, 1-1 record into today’s 7 p.m. contest, NSA will face a 1-7, 0-2 Humphreys Academy team hungry for a win.
The Belzoni version of Rebels is in the throes of a seven-game losing streak after claiming their lone victory in the season’s opening game.
Both squads suffered losses last Friday night as the NSA squad dropped a 42-12 district decision to now 7-1 Newton County Academy in Decatur.
Meanwhile, that same night the Rebels of Humphreys Academy fell by a 46-34 score to Deer Creek School of Arcola.
Historically, the NSA versus Humphreys series is a long one. To date, NSA owns a 17-15 series advantage, a lead enhanced by NSA’s 44-0 victory over the Belzoni school last season.
In last Friday’s loss to Newton County Academy, the Rebels scored by way of a 51-yard Anquon Townsend run to the end zone and a Bryce Redwine touchdown pass.
On the receiving end of that 10-yard scoring strike was Zach Walker.
Townsend would lead the NSA run game by picking up 115 yards on his 13 carries.
Defensively, Addison Childs and William Fortenberry paced the Rebels’ resistance with two solo tackles and one assist apiece.
While Townsend added a pair of solo tackles, Maddox Milum added two assists and one tackle for loss.
