Indianola residents may have noticed they received identical water bills from the city at the beginning of January.
The same occurred in October of 2021, which means the city paid for postage twice on each occasion.
That being said, Mayor Ken Featherstone said city hall is putting in place steps to keep this from happening again.
“Going forward, we just need to look and double-check and make sure that we don’t make this mistake again,” Featherstone said.
Featherstone said he wasn’t aware that it happened previously in October but plans to keep an eye out so it doesn’t happen again under his administration.
“This January problem is definitely on my radar, and we will be very vigilant to make sure it doesn’t happen again and inconvenience the citizens of Indianola and cause us the expense of sending out those water bills,” he said.
Featherstone believes new hires could help solve the problem.
“We've been talking about adding more clerks and the need for help down there,” he said.
