The City of Indianola’s solid waste contractor is working to find replacement trash cans for ones that have worn out.
Jimmie Moore appeared before the board, mainly to thank the city for its continued contract with Arrow Disposal, but he also fielded some questions and addressed some common complaints Mayor Ken Featherstone said city hall receives from citizens.
Featherstone said some cans have gotten brittle and have broken.
“We have a list of citizens that are calling all the time. Can we get those replaced more frequently?” he asked.
Moore deferred to the local contact, Robert Young, who was also in attendance. Young said he has been able to get a few cans over the last two weeks for new homes going up in the Southgate subdivision, but he said has not yet been able to secure the large volume needed to replace all of the worn-out cans.
“If I had about 500 more, we’d be in good shape,” he said.
Moore pointed out that cities with larger orders, sometimes in the tens of thousands, were being prioritized while smaller orders are placed on the backburner for now.
“We’re at the mercy of the manufacturer,” he said, adding that he and Young plan to work hard to get those cans in the city soon.
Young noted that many of the cans are under warranty, so he should be able to get those replaced free of charge to the city.
