The Indianola Board of Aldermen voted on Monday night to again table a motion to add new names to the signature cards for the checking account and Certificate of Deposit account for the Indianola Municipal Airport.
The item has appeared at least three times on agendas dating back to December, but City Clerk Angela Goodwin’s request that her, Mayor Ken Featherstone and Vice Mayor Ruben Woods be added to the accounts has drawn pushback from some aldermen.
The confusion among the board members seems to stem from whether or not the city will play a role in airport operations moving forward.
Goodwin and Featherstone insist that nothing will change in that regard and that the signatures are necessary in order for the clerk to monitor the account and be able to certify it in compliance with the law.
“We don’t need to take over the airport,” Ward 2 Alderman Darrell Simpson said on Monday, adding that the city did not need to take over any operations there, including paying the utilities.
“We are paying the light bill,” Goodwin said. “And the insurance.”
A motion was made by Ward 4 Alderman Marvin Elder, but it died for lack of a second.
A new motion was made to table the discussion, which then passed.
